A Healthy Salad for the Iron Man

Well Year 4, I was really impressed with your salads today.  You all worked really hard on them – fantastic work.  Take a look at the salads that you produced and let me know what you thought about your salad.  Think about:

What did you enjoy about making your salad?  What did you find difficult?  What skills did you learn or improve?  What did your salad taste like?  Would you make your salad again in the future?  Why?  What would you change about your salad if you made it in the future?  How could you improve it?

Looking forward to your replies and ideas about your salads.

Dear Mrs Johns and Mrs bell
I love making our fruit salads though the hard bits were chopping the fruit that were round. I learnt about new equipment and how to use it I also improved my chopping. My salad tasted amazing my family gave me 10/10 marks . Next time I make a fruit salad it will be made of green fruits and more of each fruit, because my dad gave me a tip and I like trying new stuff.

Hi Mrs Bell, Mrs Johns and Mrs Dixon,

I really enjoyed making a salad because its something new and other classes don’t usually do that. So I’m really glad you chose to do that And I want to ask you some questions about how you thought to do that.
.Why did you choose to do a salad?
.Why did you ask us to do it about the iron man?
.Did all of the teachers think its a good idea or not?

I don’t exactly know how I made up that my salad would look and taste like that. Hope you enjoyed my blog.

      Hi

Thanks for your reply and your questions, we all thought that it would be a really good idea to create salads for the Iron Man – something a little healthier than his normal diet! I wonder thought, what did your salad taste like? Would you make it again and if so would you do everything the same or change some things?

      Looking forward to your reply.

I really enjoyed making a salad for the iron man, it was fun using the kitchen equipment particularly the peeler. I found using the knife quite difficult at first but with more and more practice it got easier to do. My salad was colourful but I feel I could have improved the look by adding more fruit.

It was fun when we was making a poster it was really colourful and bright on a arrow I used 2 different colours together.

Then I started to make my fruit salad. I went to the fruit and started chopping Bananas and strawberrys, then went to the healthy part. Next I peeled the salad with my hands and then washed it and then I put it in my tub neatly. Mrs cooper took a picture of my salad when I finished. I would like to do it again and When I ate my salad it was fantastic. Thanks to all the teachers for setting this all up for us. :D :D :)

    Hi Mrs Johns

I thought that my salad was really good because I looked at it and i was really impressed because it was quite hard to cut through the apple but when I finally cut through it I was suprissed that I did it. My favorite bit was when we got to chop the banana because it was slipping and sliding everywhere. When I finally grabbed hold of the banana i got use to chopping all of the fruit so i carried on and then I found out how good I did. Also i loved argonising all of the fruit everyone laughed at it because I made it look a bit to funny the thing i learnd the most was how to use all of the equiptment because at first I had no idea what to do with half of the equiptment it tasted like one of the salads my mum once had so it was very tasty. Yes i would make my salad again because it looked so funny and it tasted so nice i would probably put less lettuce in it because i don’t really like lettuce.

I really enjoyed the cooking of the food for the iron man! Thank you for the session :)
I enjoyed it when we did all the cutting and using different tools to do our work! I hope we can do this again one day. I really enjoyed it. I liked using the apple cutter too. I like cooking and I think I am going to do more cooking at home :)

I’m glad you want to do more cooking at home, just make sure you have an adult with you so that you stay safe – some equipment in the kitchen can be dangerous if you don’t use it carefully and under supervision.

What did you salad taste like? Would you change anything about your salad if you made it again?

Hi Mrs Johns,Mrs Bell and Mrs Dixon,
I had a amazing time making our delicious fruit and veg salads! My favourite part of the day was when I chopped all of the food to different shapes and sizes apart from the carrot because it was big and rock solid. I loved using all of the colorful fruit and the sharp, metal equipment that I had never used before. Thank you for letting us have such a fun time!

Hi Mrs Johns and Mrs Bell,

I really enjoyed making my fruit salad in D.T. ( design technology ) for the Iron Man.
It was fun when we got to prepare the fruit and vegetables, choosing what we wanted in our salads, washing, peeling, and cutting up our ingredients. When we got told we were going to cook something, I became excited because I love cooking ; D.
The thing I found difficult was making sure my fruit salad was ready in time but thankfully I managed to complete it . I learn’t how to use some utensils that I had never used before.
Me and my family thought it was very tasty, so did my dog, because I gave her some to ; D.
I would make my fruit salad again, because I had so much fun and it was easy to make by myself. I would want to change the banana that I included, because when I came to eat the fruit salad it was all mushy and nobody ate it, except my dog. To improve it I would add some sort of fruit juice to preserve the banana.

    See you later

    Isabel ; D.

Making fruit salad was awesome! I named mine Isaac junior so Ben called his Ben junior. Isabel made a fish Princess and fish dog out of fruit. Did you know Ben’s original face was going to be made out of vegetables and have a pea mouth? ; ) My favourite one was probably Gabriel’s mainly because of the green hair! Why because the hair was made out of lettuce! Toodles Isaac

My fruit salad was delicious! It contained lots of my favorite fruits such as melon, strawberry and grapes.
Firstly, I chose 5 ingredients to put into my salad. Then I designed what it would look like on some paper. I wanted it to be very colourful so that it would be appealing to others. The following week we made our salad. It took about an hour for us all to chop up the fruit. Some added fruit juice to keep their salad moist, however i didn’t. Some people added vegetables instead of fruits. I ate my fruit salad all to myself on the journey home from school! (-:

Making salads was awesome, because we got to mix up vegetables and fruits to make different combinations. My favourite part was designing our salads because you got a chance to make lots of weird, unusual and exiting dishes.I also really liked it because you could use your imagination!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was a fun activity designing the salads. I liked designing the salads because you could use your imagination to design the Iron Man’s salad. On the other hand, I personally enjoyed making the salads. Then, on the way home from school I ate my delicious, fabulous fruit salad. Making the salad was amazing, because when we were putting in our pieces of fruit me and Mollie put our fruit in a beautiful presentation.

I loved my fruit salad but some of the fruit was squashed and soggy i gave my Dad that fruit but evrything else was fine. Lula made her fruit into i think she said a dog and the other ones are fish. Evryone in my family tried one pice of fruit each and they loved them. So my fruit salad did not turn out gross after all i really enjoyed the day from Eve

I really enjoyed making our fruit salad in D.T (design Technology). If I made it again in the future I would use less Raisins . What I thought was hard was using the apple cutter because it was hard to press down . I enjoyed doing the setting and loved seeing all the different colours . I learnt to use a grater safely. Thank you for supplying the fruit.

Why would you use less raisins? I agree that it can be tricky to use the apple cutter, but it ensures that all the pieces look the same. I am glad you enjoyed the session.

Hi Mrs Johns and Mrs Bell
I really enjoyed making my fruit salad. I put carrots, banana, grapes, raisins, blueberries, cucumber, oranges, apple and dried apricots in my fruit salad, my Dad said it was delicious although he wouldn’t normally have cucumber and carrots with fruit. I hope we can do this sort of thing again sometime but we used fruit again I would use more lemon juice to stop the fruit from going mushy.

Dear Mrs Johns and Mrs Bell,
I really enjoyed making the salad. In my salad there were two plums, blueberries, grapes, 3 chopped up strawberries, raspberries, an apple, 5 slices of pineapple and some dried apricots. I liked using the apple corer, it was lots of fun to use. You had to push down the two handles at the side and it chopped the apple into a little flower shape, neatly cut up. I have asked my mum to get one of these – where did you get it from? My brother, my dad and I ate all the salad. They said it tasted yummy and the raspberries tasted really sour!
If I made my salad again I would add some banana but make sure it wasn’t squishy and I wouldn’t put as much pineapple in.

You are right the apple cutter is great and helps to do a great job of cutting it up neatly. You can buy them in supermarkets – I can’t remember which one I got it from now, although we are actually on our second one as my nephew decided that it was the only way he would eat apples and took it home with him (he is only 3)! We got our second one on amazon. I have included the link for your Mum or Dad to check it out. http://www.amazon.co.uk/OXO-Good-Grips-Apple-Divider/dp/B00004OCKT/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420381653&sr=8-1&keywords=apple+cutter
